Iron Brides responses to “Bridal Planning” Questions given them….

I sent the Iron Brides Readers some “Open Ended” Questions pertaining to exploring options for wedding cakes, limousine services, bridal shops, and catering/personal chefs.  I was fishing for responses and information regarding some of the planning items for their weddings by asking these questions to see what the girls are looking for these days.   With this being said, I would like to share the responses of 3-4 bridal contestants…. Kylin, Jennifer, Tarryn, and Amy.

Girls, thanks for your candid responses.  Your feedback will provide constructive information to others I am certain.

From Kylin Szlosek:

We would like a buffet. I’ve been to some weddings where they had a sit down dinner and I was bored having to sit and wait. I want people to be able to move around, sit where they want, dance when they want, and eat when they want.

As for a cake, well, we were thinking of cupcakes layered in a shape of a cake. We’re not big on cake, and I would rather everyone dancing then sitting.

I would love to have a limo. We want the ceremony and reception on the beach, so I would just like to have a limo that would bring our guests from the hotel to the beach and back to the hotel after the reception. That way everyone can have fun and drink, without driving. So there will be no worries.

I’m very excited to go try on dresses this weekend. I’m going with my best friend, who is also going to be my maid of honor.
I would love my mom to go, but I don’t want her to feel guilty or sad that she can’t afford to help me with the dress. I would rather surprise her.

From Jennifer Lessard:

My perfect wedding cake would be BOTH trad. and contemp. because well I want my wedding to be a mixture of both! I have a cousin who specializes in pastries~ she’s like my sister and wants to do make and bake! BUT I also have a friend of the family’s whose a head chef His thoughts are very unique.. MAYBE I could bring my cousin and him together and something beautiful and tasteful will come out of i t!! Speaking of tasteful my cake testing insist the occ. party cake made by Betty Crocker!!!

A Limo.. hmmmm…. havent even thought of that!

Shopping for a bridal gown.. I would want my dad to be there he has been my Mr. mom for a long time! and if my parents got along I’d have my mom there too! My wedding gown well we all know I already have 1.5 lol. So maybe my first gown I can get fixed up a bit and if not.. then I would go everywhere until I put on that dress that makes me CRYYY!

Sit down dinners… not my thing EVERYONE NEEDS TO stuff their faces from my catered Italian buffet!  I mean HELLO!?!? HONEYMOON!!

I care to some extent what my wedding is like..
But looking into his eyes when we say we do is what everyone will cherish most.. and remember~~

From Tarryn Brandl:

Hi Joann,

How r u? I was just looking at your blog and wanted to answer some of the questions u asked. I have to tell you I love all three of your blogs they are always entertaining, witty, and insightful yet make you stop and really think about things… I like that!

So here go my thoughts:

Cake- I would certainly go with contemporary the things they can do edible ingredients just fascinates me! I’ve heard great things about both Jacques and Fredericks Pastries so I’d probably start there.

Limo- While we would certainly go with some type of car service my fiance Sean really wants an antique car (but I can’t find a dealer anywhere!!!) Should we use a limo I have always used Grace Limousines for proms and other events that required a limo so I’d probably stick to what I know and use them.

Bridal Shopping- Of course I want my mom there, and all my bridesmaids, and if my mother in law wanted to come sure why not! I’ve heard great things about Madeleines Daughter and plan to go there first.. they also are the only carrier of Jim Hjelm bridesmaid dresses in NH and I love his stuff. I’ve tried to stay away from big places like David’s Bridal for the soul fact that it is always so busy and I think a little generic but you never know where you’ll find your perfect dress. Right?

Catering- Well I LOVE LOBSTER… however I think it would be a bit to messy for a wedding and not to mention the price tag. Perhaps this will be the rehearsal dinner! I think the food is very important at a wedding. I’m very much a meat and potatoes kind of girl so I’d work off that… classy and tastes good but nothing super fancy or else I wouldn’t eat it because I’m very, very  picky!

Hope this helps a bit!

Of course first and foremost I need to find a Location!!!!!! Which is much harder than I thought it would be :)

Take Care

Tarryn

From Amy Dole:

wedding cake Id go more contemporary to represent my fiance & I.  One of my best friends is a pastry chef in Boston, she went to the CIA, and also has a cordon blue degree (not sure if spelled that right) her cakes are gorgeous and she offered to make one for me as a wedding gift.  I haven’t decided flavors or done tastings. I might have a grooms cake to not sure!

I havent thought about where id get a limousine from yet.

when shopping for a gown my mum will definatly be there and my mother in law will most likely come too!  Just depends on her schedual… she loves me :)   I want a dress from madelines daughter.  Madeline was my great uncles wife.  Her daughter Janet is who opened the store.  Im big on family, So thats where I am going.

I really want a sit down dinner at my wedding and open bar! but for the rehearsal dinner, or bridal shower If I got that catered I would probably do italian, or work with the caterers to come up with something that represented the seasons best.  Like in the fall I cook differently then I do in the summer and id want the menu to reflect that.

I want my wedding to be an experience for everyone who attends. I also want it to really represent who Lance and I are.  Every detail of the wedding I want personalized.  Hope that helps!

Iron Brides Blog Readers: I’ve a few questions for you…

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW . . . . . . . . . .

I would like to know if you would help pique my curiosity by responding to the following questions or ideas:

If you were going to order your wedding cake, would you go with a more traditional or contemporary style?  Do you know from whom you would order?   Have you completed any cake tastings?

Have you thought about whether or not you would use a limousine service?  If you have, who do you think you would contract with?

In shopping for bridal gown and bridesmaids dresses…..would your Mom or Mother-in-Law be a part of this?   Do you have bridal shops or boutiques in mind?

If you could have a catered buffet, what types of foods would YOU like to have?  Italian, homestyle, chinese, sushi???

I’m asking these questions 1)  out of curiosity, and 2)  these are questions I would also ask my own daughter, Julia….

So, if you could help me out with brief answers, that would be SUPER!
